Former President J.A. Kuffour as a UN Special Envoy on Climate Change

On behalf of the Ghanaian youth, 350 Ghana [G-ROC] do congratulate Former President, John Agyekum Kuffour on his appointment as a UN Special Envoy on Climate Change to assist Heads of State and Governments around the world in mobilizing the political will to garner support for the 2014 Climate Summit that will be held in New York in 2014.

His appointment came at a time when the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) had come out with their new report confirming that indeed human influence has been the dominant cause of the observed global warming since the mid-20th century which has brought to a total closure all debate surrounding the reality or otherwise of climate change. We therefore reckon that he will discharge his duties without much hindrance (if any).

We are therefore very confident and certain that he will succeed in making a very strong case to safeguard the interest of Africa and other least developed continents in the area of climate financing and technology transfer, and also influencing world leaders to expedite action on various pledges or commitments made in the fight against climate change.

We wish him every success in his newly assumed responsibility and we as young climate activists are willing to provide our support and contribute to helping achieve his mandate. Ghana Reducing Our Carbon [G- ROC] is a youth-led grassroots movement in Ghana formed with the aim of mobilizing and empowering young people in partnership with key stakeholders to actively champion the need to reduce our carbon emissions as a key effort in combating climate change.
